A multifaceted event including the un:mute art exhibition by artist-in-residence Laura Dean, a sharing of findings from the AHRC Women/Theatre/Justice research project, and a long table discussion on 'How can we end the criminalisation of women?’

The WTJ project was invited to participate in Warwick Business School's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Festival. We took artist-in-residence Laura Dean's response to the project, un:mute the exhibition, and discussed findings on the organisational practice of Clean Break.

un:mute by Laura Dean provides a powerful and different way of telling the story of a research project through a dazzling installation of images, soundscapes and visual artefacts that are witty, angry, sad and hopeful. Gallery Open Wednesday 5th October 6-9pm and Thursday 6th October 10am-3pm.

Members of the Women|Theatre|Justice Project Team and Anna Herrmann, Joint CEO of Clean Break contributed to an event launching an exhibition of art created by our artist-in-residence Laura Dean. The exhibition also launched Clean Break’s Digital Timeline.

This was the first online workshop on the Clean Break archive: an opportunity to encounter and explore aspects of Clean Break's digital archive, to interrogate and to respond. Using a curated set of materials, the multiple stories an archive can tell were explored and uncovered what our own dialogues with it might be.

This online event aimed to explore organisational and management practices within women-only organisations. Speakers reflected on practices within Clean Break and on wider academic research and expertise, to explore what shared leadership means in practice.

Between them, Clean Break and TIPP have accrued 70 years worth of experience of arts practice in the criminal justice system. Taking place as part of an extended celebration of 40 years of Clean Break’s work, and coinciding with the 30th anniversary of TIPP’s prison theatre course for undergraduates, this event is of interest to anyone who wants to find out more about collaborative, socially-engaged and creative approaches to arts practice in prisons.

This online seminar was aimed principally at undergraduate and postgraduate students interested in women and the criminal justice system. The event draws on perspectives from criminal justice research, policy and practice, as well as performance, and explores the gendered pains of punishment for criminalised women.

This online panel event brought together speakers from Criminal Justice, Arts and Culture, and the Women’s Sector to reflect on how the coronavirus has impacted the lives of incarcerated women and those encountering the criminal justice system at this time.
